Our Target Client Group
The Steppin' Stone Centre targets its services at those who are experiencing, or have experienced, rough sleeping or hostel accommodation or who are vulnerably housed. For a variety of reasons and often as result of their experience of homelessness, members' lives have been damaged and hence the target client group require support in the resettlement process by virtue of
- Isolation and lack of social engagement
- A lack of the basic life skills necessary to sustain housing and/or fulfil their personal aspirations
- Basic literacy and numeracy needs
- Primary health or mental health needs
- Needs in relation to treatment of and recovery from substance misuse
How We Operate
We welcome around 70 members daily. The Steppin' Stone is run by a small team of workers, four full-time and two part-time, who are supported by approximately 60 volunteers. We are not a drop- in centre but run a membership scheme. Members are encouraged to take part in all aspects of the running of the centre. We do not allow alcohol or drugs onto the premises, nor anyone under the influence of such. We run quarterly Open Meetings where all can have their say and where feedback is given to the trustees.
Aspirations and Goals
- To increase our dedicated professional resources to the delivery of enhanced individual development
- To continue to develop the range of activities as an aid to engaging new and existing members in support-plan based individual development programmes
- To provide nutritious meals, promoting healthy eating. We believe that there are strong links between good food and well being.
- To promote an enhanced induction assessment and support-plan led approach relating to the hopes and aspirations of each member
- To recognise and celebrate the achievements of members by a portfolio of achievement for each member
